Glory... to you... Pesci... Kill him... Kill him, Pesci... I...am watching... over you...
Context and an Overview:
La Squadra is a group of characters from the manga and anime "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo." This part follows the story of characters involved in the Neapolitan Mafia in Naples, Italy in 2001. The rough plotline is our main character's attempt to kill the don and overthrow the mafia.
La Squadra is a team that works for the mafia as hitmen ("La Squadra Ezecuzioni"). They act as minor antagonists by attempting to intercept the main character's attempt to overthrow the mafia. Their goal is to overthrow the mafia themselves in order to make more money.
Why do I like La Squadra so Much?
Sometimes I feel like a little freak for liking them so much - I could argue they were written intentionally to be "bad people." I think my enjoyment of them boils down to how much creative liberty they give me as an artist and creator. The individual characters don't get very much screen time, and there's virtually no details about them save for their stands and some personality traits (Risotto Nero is an exception).
I also think their story is relatable from the perspective of someone who had to scrape by. Hear me out. I grew up terribly poor and my whole life was spent getting underpaid at shitty, dangerous jobs. This is going to circle back around I promise. Most of my best friends and found family were coworkers, and I think it's pretty common for that to happen to people working terrible jobs together.
La Squadra are bottom-of-the-barrel job position wise. Multiple times during the show they make it clear that they've been chronically underpaid for the dangerous work they're doing. Because of this, I like to imagine them as a sort of family, and I am a SUCKER for found family tropes.
TL:DR; La Squadra has so much potential for artistic liberties, and I love the found-family vibe.
